School Portrait Spring Minis
Natural, Modern School Portraits
Without the rushed feeling of traditional school picture day.
School photos don’t have to feel rushed, awkward, or overly staged. These mini sessions are designed to create beautiful, natural portraits of your child in a calm and welcoming environment.
Whether your child attends public school, private school, or is homeschooled, these sessions are a wonderful way to document this season of their life with portraits you’ll actually want to frame and share.
Each session is short, relaxed, and professionally guided so your child feels comfortable in front of the camera — allowing their personality to shine through.
These portraits are perfect for:
Annual school photos
Memory books and school records
Gifts for grandparents and family
Updating frames around your home
Documenting each school year as your child grows

Add-On: “About Me” Video Portrait
Turn this year’s school portrait into something even more meaningful.
With this optional add-on, your child will record a short video portrait answering a few fun questions about themselves. It’s a simple, sweet way to capture not just what they looked like this year — but who they were at this age.
Kids change so quickly, and their little personalities, voices, and favorite things evolve every year. These video portraits create a time capsule you’ll love looking back on later.
During the session, I’ll ask your child a few lighthearted questions like:
What’s your favorite food?
What do you love to do for fun?
Who is your best friend?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
What’s your favorite movie or show right now?
Their answers are often funny, sweet, and wonderfully honest — the kinds of memories parents wish they could bottle up forever.

A few simple “about me” questions for your child to answer

Delivered digitally along with your photo
These videos pair beautifully with the portraits and become a treasured yearly tradition for many families.
Imagine being able to look back years from now and not only see what your child looked like… but hear their little voice and the things they loved at that moment in time.
Outfit Guide
What your child wears can make a big difference in the final portrait. The goal is to choose clothing that feels comfortable, timeless, and simple.
Best Clothing Choices
Choose outfits that photograph well and keep attention on your child’s face.
Great options include:
Solid colored shirts or dresses
Soft neutrals (cream, tan, light brown, muted blues, soft pinks)
Simple textures like linen, cotton, or knit fabrics
Classic styles such as collared shirts, simple dresses, or sweaters
These types of clothing help create portraits that feel classic rather than trendy.
Clothing to Avoid
Some clothing choices can distract from the portrait or photograph poorly.
Try to avoid:
Large logos or brand names
Bright neon colors
Busy patterns
Characters or graphics
Distracting text on clothing
Fit and Comfort Matter
Make sure clothing fits well and that your child feels comfortable wearing it.
Children who feel comfortable tend to:
relax faster
smile more naturally
enjoy the session more
If your child is uncomfortable in an outfit, it will usually show in the photos.
Hair and Grooming
Keep hair styling simple and natural.
Before the session:
Brush hair and smooth flyaways
Make sure faces are clean
Remove temporary tattoos if possible
Bring a brush if your child has longer hair
For younger children, you may want to bring a small comb for quick touch-ups.
Parent Prep Guide
A little preparation goes a long way in helping sessions run smoothly.
Included in your purchase: a digital graphic - one of three
Talk About the Session Positively
Children do best when they feel relaxed and excited.
Instead of saying things like “you need to behave,” try saying:
“We’re going to take some fun pictures!”
Keeping the tone light helps children feel comfortable.
Arrive Ready
Because mini sessions move quickly, it’s important that children arrive:
dressed and ready
hair styled
faces clean
This helps us use the full session time capturing great photos.
Keep Expectations Simple
Children don’t need to perform or pose perfectly. The best portraits often come from natural expressions and small moments.
The goal is simply to capture your child as they are right now.
Younger Kids
For younger children:
Make sure they’ve had a snack beforehand
Avoid scheduling during normal nap times
Bring a small comfort item if needed (we can hide it between photos)

Meet Your Photographer
Hi, I’m Ashley. I’m a photographer, filmmaker, and a mom, which means I understand firsthand how quickly these school years pass. One minute they’re learning their letters, and the next they’re suddenly looking so grown up in photos. Capturing these moments matters more than we often realize in the moment.
Working with kids is one of my favorite parts of photography. I aim to create a fun, relaxed environment where children can feel comfortable being themselves. There’s no pressure for perfect smiles, just a little guidance and space for their natural personality to come through.
As a parent, I also know that school photos should be simple and stress-free for families. That’s why these mini sessions are designed to be quick, easy, and efficient while still producing portraits you’ll be proud to keep for years.
My goal is to give you a photo that truly feels like your child - not a forced pose, but a genuine moment from this stage of their life.
I’m honored to be the person families trust to document these memories.
